Sometimes we can’t sleep. It’s a built in error with humanity, along with back hair and self righteousness. There’s lots of reasons that you might find yourself unable to sleep. Those can be saved for another time. For now, we’re going to focus on all of the wonderful activities you could use to fill your night. These weird and wonderful activities are sure to brighten your next morning and give you something fun to do next time you find that the sheep are uncountable.

1. Learn a Foreign Language
The internet is huge, as I’m sure you know. The world is now, thanks to that fact, closer together than ever before. Cultures are mixing and melding all over. You should learn a second language. Maybe even a third. Don’t be tricked into thinking that you have to pay for class. There’s plenty of free websites and videos to help teach you that new language. There’s free games and free books too. There’s no reason you can’t be speaking Mandarin by Christmas.
2. See the World
Art is free now. For better or for worse, creativity is now an infinite resource. The time when you life’s memories was chained to a box of photos is long gone. 10 percent of all photographs taken in the history of mankind were taken in 2012. You can do everything a travel agent used to do professionally. Go to Google maps and or Google Earth. Take a tour of a city you love, or a country you’ve dreamed about. Take a digital tour of the Louvre. Your culture meter will expand greatly.
3. Read a Classic
How pretentious would you rate yourself? Do you want to be more pretentious? How about just be more knowledgeable about classy references? Good news, you can be the literary genius you’ve always wanted to be. Many classic texts, from “The Brothers Karamazov” to “Gulliver’s Travels” can be obtained for free from many internet sources, or even your local library. Spend the night getting cozy with outdated cultural references and satire on British colonial politics.

4. Write a Foreign World Classic
After taking in all those wonderful sights and ideas and words in one night, it’s time to turn the tables and make something new for yourself. Try your hand at writing a classic story with lots of locations, all in a foreign language. You’ll be surprised how great it turns out. Every computer has free word processing software, so why not give it a shot. You could be a globally famous author and not even know it. You can’t sleep, so why not give it a shot?
